Welcome to K12web!
"It is so small a thing/ To have enjoyed the sun,/ To have lived light in the spring,/ To have loved, to have thought, to have done . . .." Matthew Arnold Greetings from the reading room of Richlands Middle School. Here we work to improve all aspects of a student's reading: fluency, comprehension, spelling, vocabulary, and writing. I hope you find the website informative and helpful. If you have questions regarding your individual student's progress or activities, please feel free to email me. PARENT TIP: Reading with your child can be a positive experience for both of you. One important function while reading is picturing what is going on in the book. It's like experiencing a movie. The reader forms pictures in his/her mind that engage him/her with the information in the story. Some children do this naturally; others can be taught. Many children get bored with reading simply because they do not experience this "movie" in their imaginations. While reading with your child, stop frequently and tell him/her what you see in your mind and then ask him/her the same question. If the child does not see anything, have him/her go back over the same reading passage, making pictures as he/she goes along. Never take for granted that your child does this automatically. In time, this process will become automatic. Those who don't read are no better off than those who can't. "The love of learning, The sequestered nooks, And all the sweet serenity Of books" Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
