We are working in our eighth and nineth reading units called "Little by Little."  In this unit the students will learn about all type of changes- seasonal changes, changes in plants, and the personal changes that they will be going through as they get older.During reading time, we are working on listening skills and simple finger plays. We will be clapping words in sentences, finding missing words in lists, beginning and ending  sounds of words and about vowels.

We are hearing lots of interesting poems and stories. We are learning lots about how to hold a book, where to start reading, and about the parts of a book. We also are learning about the jobs of an author (writes the words) ,the illustrator (draws the pictures) and the setting (where the story takes place.)

Students will continue reading from Pre-Decodable books. We have met the site words: "a," "at" "the", "and", "see", "on", "in", "have"  "can" "I"  "you" "she" "go" and "is."

We  have begun our initial exploration of letters. During this unit we will meet letters h,t,i,n,l,b,k,o,r,f,j,u,ks,z, u, v, w, y e and g. We meet a new capital and small letter each day.

This 3 week reading unit is divided into 15 lessons. Each lesson uses a different type of literature to emphasize reading skills. The following is a list of each lesson’s focus:
Day 1 and 2 ~ Big Book
Day 3~ Poem
Day 4 and 5~ Trade Book
Day 6 and 7~ Folk Tale
Day 8 and 9 ~ Trade Book
Day 10~ Poem
Day 11 and 12~ Trade Book
Day 13 and 14~ Folk Tale
Day 15~ Students’ Favorites

During our writing time, students are working on tracing their names, cutting and coloring skills. We are talking about the calendar, numbers, shapes, and colors, too.  Pre-K is a very busy place!
