Welcome to Mrs Stevenson's class! Currently, we are reviewing for the radidly approaching state reading SOL test. We are working through past Released Items tests from the D.O.E. website, as well as other similiar prototypes. For each test item the student chooses an answer, and proof of that choice. It is expected that students earn a score of 80 or above to be successful. Please encourage your child to read each passage carefully, and to make sure that they indeed understand the question. As always, proof of answers can be located in the passage 90% of the time. Please stress that strategy when talking with your child. Each child can be successful, but due effort must be applied. Our spring trip to Tennessee has been set for May 22. Please make a payment by April 16. The total balance is due by May 1. Thank you for you support! This week, March 31- May 4, we will be participating in the Family Life informational program. If you do not want your student to participate, you may opt them out. Please call the school for details. Thank you!
Please take time to review the basic grammar booklet with your student. Also, basic editing skills are always important to review. Look in your student's backpack for the booklet reviewing basic grammar and punctuation. Again, thank you for your support. Thank you for your continued support of our students and our school. Please try to find time to read with your child 20 minutes a day! For your information: Each week that we read a story you are encouraged to have your student read the story at home. Sign their planner confirming that they have read the story, and they will earn 2 points, which will be added to their test score. Also, students are encouraged to do independent research on a topic related to the story for extra credit. This week week the research opportunity will be any topic related to the story. Have a great day! |
