Gifted Program/Governor's School The Gifted program in Tazewell County reaches students in Kindergarten through twelfth grade. The Virginia Plan for the Gifted mandates that the program be one of differentiation in the classroom as the basic plan. Teachers are offered workshops and classes in techniques for differentiation of the curriculum as well as having the opportunity to observe other teachers model this teaching technique. Many of our schools in Tazewell County also offer after-school or Saturday activities for gifted students. During the summer two weeks of enrichment classes are offered at the three middle schools for 2nd through 8th grade students. High school students have the opportunity to participate in summer regional governor's school or the various state governor's school programs. High school students also have the opportunity to participate in the A. Linwood Holton Governor's School which is based in Abingdon but delivery of instruction is done via the Internet to the home high schools of the participating students.
