BETA CLUB
  Tazewell High School
Tazewell, VA

The National Beta Club is an honor society open to high school juniors and seniors whose mission is to reward achievement and serve the community.  Our local chapter strives to live up to these ideals through its many activities.  The Senior Beta Club is sponsored by Mrs. Leesa Peery and Mrs. Jill Rhudy and the Junior Beta Club is sponsored by Mr. Greg Deskins and Mrs. Lori Moss. To be a member of the club, students must maintain a minimum G.P.A. of 3.5 and participate in several service projects throughout the year.  Annually, the Beta Club sponsors a blood drive and tutoring (upon request) starting at 7:30 AM. Recently, the Beta Club also collected donations to send to the American soldiers serving in Iraq. Junior Beta's service projects include special activitie with students in the high school and elementary school.

Also, the Senior Beta Club sponsors the Beta Bowl each year. The competition is a scholastic trivia contest held each December. Teachers nominate six outstanding students from each grade level to form a trivia team. The teams compete against each other after school and then the championship is held in front of the THS student body. All of the Beta Club's many community service activities complement their national motto: "Let us Lead by Serving Others."
