TAZEWELL ELEMENTARY SCHOOLOne of the most successful ways that we supplement our reading program is the use of the Accelerated Reader Program. In this program our students select his or her reading material, then reads the material at a comfortable pace. After each book completed, the students work through a computerized multiple-choice test. The program provides an instant score and immediate reinforcement in a way that's both encouraging and fun. The scientifically designed "reading points system" establishes a clear system of goals and recognition that motivates students to read more. Each of our classrooms is networked and each classroom has at least one computer available for students to use with this program. Currently our school database includes 7,152 Accelerated Reader tests. Each year the media specialist and Title I personnel strive to include more tests and books of all reading levels and genres.
