A write up sheet was found dated April, 1970 giving a description of our school soon after it was constructed:
Tazewell County Vocational School
Type: A vocational center serving all of Tazewell County
Date Constructed: 1968
Date Opened: Session 1968-1969
Cost: $394,064
Offerings: Auto Mechanics, Carpentry, Cosmetology, Drafting and Electricity
Square Feet of Floor Space: 26,000 square feet
Enrollment: 1969-1970, 224 full-time day school students and 60 night time adults.
Comments:

This is a vocational center located on the grounds of Tazewell High School but is operated as a separate school with its own administration. It offers occupational training to all the high schools in Tazewell County. The structure is electrically heated. In addition to the six day trades offered in the day time, there are four trade extension classes in operation two nights per week. Because of the request for additional vocational offerings in Tazewell County, the Tazewell County Vocational Center has plans for an expansion to their building to include four more trade classes. This expansion is scheduled to begin before the end of this school session. This center was constructed with Appalachian and local funds.
